We are not just a company; we are a laboratory for social impact.
Socialtec is a research and development collective built by Web3 veterans, architects, and artists. We are united by a single hypothesis: that technology can be designed to strengthen, rather than strip-mine, our social fabric. We operate at the intersection of deep technical research and human-centric design.
The Stewards
Michiel Heij
Vision & Strategy
“The Architect”
Michiel has been navigating the frontier of decentralized technology since its earliest days. An early backer of Ethereum and Polkadot, he focuses on the structural “system errors” of our current economy. His role is to translate the philosophy of “Generative Value” into concrete technical protocols like GIVO.
Bob Embregts
Art Director & Branding
“The Translator”
Complex technology often fails because it feels alien. Bob’s mission is to translate abstract protocols into human language. He ensures that our tools are not just functional but approachable, bridging the gap between cold code and warm, trustworthy human interaction.
Sanne Wassink
Social Innovation
“The Scientist”
Technology is only as strong as the human bonds it supports. As a Development Anthropologist working on future‑ready societies, Sanne strengthens the cultural foundations that help communities and organizations thrive. Her work ensures that Socialtec’s innovations unlock and elevate human potential.
Advisors
Armijn van Roon
Innovation Strategy
“Partner in progress.” Expert in concept development and innovation, supporting mission-driven organizations.
Rob van Hilten
Social Finance
Professional with deep experience in microfinance and empowering social entrepreneurs to build sustainable impact.
Claasje Reijers
Community Participation
Expert in “Mensen Mee” (getting people on board). Facilitating connection, equality, and participation in complex social projects.
We helped fund and foster the Web3 revolution. As early participants in Ethereum and Polkadot, we recognized the potential of decentralized consensus early. We contributed to first-gen interoperability platforms like Blocknet and Komodo.
2019
Prototyping "Atomic Loops"
We moved from theory to practice by inventing “atomic loops” for decentralized bartering. This prototype won the Inclusive Banking Track at Europe’s largest Blockchain Hackathon and the Asito Social Innovation Prize.
2020
Institutional Validation
Selected for the prestigious EIT RawMaterials Accelerator, helping us refine our strategy for applying decentralized tools to real-world resource challenges.
2021 - 2023
The "Laboratory" Phase
Three years of “The Grind”, intense, self-funded development and field testing within a small Dutch community. Our living laboratory for testing assumptions against human reality.
2025 - Onward
Scaling the Commons
We return with a mature vision. Our focus is deploying GIVO as a foundational public good for the Polkadot ecosystem and beyond
How We Work
Open Research
We publish our findings, failures, and frameworks for the public benefit.
Community Ownership
Building towards a future where our shared infrastructure is governed by those who contribute.
Long-Term Thinking
Infrastructure for the next generation, not just the next fiscal quarter.
